Our DESSERTO® Cactus Leather

Our cactus-leather goods are made from DESSERTO® , the world's first highly sustainable and environmentally friendly organic material made of Mexican Nopal cactus.

Nopal cactus requires zero irrigation nor pesticides and naturally enriches the soil, promoting biodiversity and healthy land use.

Traditional animal leather requires on average 80,000 gallons of water to produce one square meter of fabric, whereas DESSERTO® only uses 5 gallons. Based in Zacatecas, Mexico, DESSERTO® grows Nopal locally and employs members of the local community who have been cultivating this precious crop for generations.

Supporting healing, without harming the planet

San Pedro has been studied by indigenous people for thousands of years. The west does not have 3,500 years of lineage in the use of the master teacher plants, what we do have is 80 or so years of scientific method. This is the method that medicines are integrated into most modern societies.

As such, the Grandfather Project will fund multiple phases of scientific study, holding intellectual property in trust for the benefit of indigenous communities. Our long term goal is a center for the study of this medicine, funded through the sale of clothing.
